Month 4: Sofia, Bulgaria / by Olga Kraineva

From the airplane, you could see green everywhere over the sprawling mountains. Touching down in Sofia, I immediately loved it.

That love was short lived. I had to leave 2 days after touching down in Sofia for work back in the states. Total, I missed a full two weeks of our Bulgarian home. Read my post about what it’s like going back to the US when you take the plunge to become a digital nomad here.

If there’s any place to “miss” on this year, seems like Sofia was the place to do it. There was definitely a lot less to do in Sofia compared to maybe some of our other itinerary stops. It was a sense of a slowed down comfort after the crazy Spain was, and an ability to build up more of a routine.

It was also where I fell deeper into a relationship that was just starting to bud in Valencia. We fell into each other and developed our own routine and began opening up to each other more. I don’t think there’s anything more special than the bond you can share with someone. I love the feeling of magnetism when you see your person rounding around the corner of a street, both of you cracking a smile out of the genuine happiness of seeing each other. While I did a bit less than usual, learning more about this person and about myself in the process made Sofia a perfect place to set a routine and hit the reset button all at once.

As mentioned, I didn’t do too much in Sofia, so I don’t have a top 5 to share this month, so I'll leave you with a few pictures.
